Hi! My name is Emma and I am a Machine Learning Engineer at Shield AI. I am also a Natural Language Processing research assistant in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Nickvash Kani. I have been fascinated by intelligent machines since high school and believe that machine learning is helping humanity solve many complex challenges.

While attending university, I worked on several research projects addressing challenges in Machine Learning including mitigating racial bias in Language Detection algorithms, and modeling specialty languages such as academic writing and low-resource polysynthetic languages. I have one published paper in Lecture Notes in AI and several that are under peer review. As an intern at BrainBox AI, I worked on a novel, physics-based predictive neural network design for use in HVAC for commercial buildings.

In my free time, I like to read, practice my Spanish, and brew beer.
